DC Endeavour Morse Mystery Party {pt. 1 Decorations and 1960-esque attire}

An invitation mysteriously appeared in our stockings Christmas morning.
Red and gold, sealed in wax with an E.
This is what it read:
Endeavour
CORDIALLY EXTENDS HIS REGARDS
AND REQUESTS THE PLEASURE
OF YOUR COMPANY
AT A FORMAL DINNER PARTY
ON SATURDAY
AT FIVE O'CLOCK
IN THE EVENING,
THE TENTH OF JANUARY,
IN THE YEAR 1966.
DC Morse will be expecting you

And this is what unfolded in our dining room Saturday afternoon . . .

When there's more than one fork at your place, you know this is one formal affair.

Homemade napkin rings. Hannah made the napkins and tablecloth as well.

The candlesticks add such atmosphere.

It was so fun to take pictures as everything unfolded and Hannah set everything up.

The candles really were more maroon, not exactly sure how they turned out so purple looking.

The fabulous "E"s. Who is this mysterious "E"?

And then more candles began coming out.

Just awaiting a few finishing touches. Already looking fantastic.

Ravens on the windowsill.

Floating candles.

So many little details.

The gloves belonged to my grandma. Dawna wore a lovely black shirt and skirt, very "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and Holly Golightly-esque, and the clothes topped it off nicely. Striking with the rose, though.

Joseph's pipe put a British air to the scene. Also a clue to the characters of this mystery.

Homemade chocolate and white chocolate truffles. White chocolate isn't really my favorite (I'm a dark chocolate girl), but I must say those white chocolate truffles were quite amazing.

Costumes!

Hannah was adorable. Cute hair. Cute dress. As if she had stepped right out of a 1960s fashion magazine. Dress from eshakti. The loveliest little hostess I've ever seen.

Rather dashing in his full suit.

The vest was my favorite.

Nothing like looking like an Oxford University student.

There's that pipe again. Certainly makes the outfit. (Disclaimer: The pipe is used solely for the purpose of looking hip and all around awesome. Smoking is not encouraged.)

Lady Dawna. Elegant as always. The picture does not do her makeup justice. I loved her pewter colored eyeliner, and the pale peachy lipstick was divine!

Dress from eshakti. Gloves from Grandma. Sweater from Target. Pearls from Dawna. Earrings-also from Target, I believe. I felt so elegant that night.

Handing out the truffles.

Delicious little thingummies. And then you looked down at the front of your outfit to find yourself covered in cocoa powder. Also, inhaling the loose powder was nigh to death by choking. Still, very, very delicious.

Ethan came as an Oxford rugby player. I didn't get a full shot of him, but he looked marvelous and you'll get a better look at him in pt. 2.

Gathering for the fun and games! And Hannah set the fog maker going. It smelled just like a wet, damp, heathery moor and filled the entire first floor.

Next time . . .
The fun and games
The food
The dessert
And four hilarious family portraits

In the mean time, check out Hannah's other mystery party I blogged about.

Until next time . . .
